History

The Graduate Program in Applied Mathematics(PPGMAp) offered by the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in Porto Alegre, RS, was founded in 1995 as the result of an increasing concentration in this area by a number of members of the former Graduate Course in Mathematics.

The PPGMAp offers a Master.s and a Doctorate Degree in Applied Mathematics, both recognized by the Brazilian Government through the CAPES agency. The program presently holds Grade 4 on the CAPES scale 0-7, according to the recent 2001-2003 evaluation.

The PPGMAp offers student scholarships sponsored by the Brazilian Government (through CAPES and CNPq) to qualified recipients. Selection is based on the student qualification and performance during the course.
